The one-sentence version: with CTV you pick the exact area around your business — a radius or a list of ZIP codes — plus the kind of household you want, so your commercial only plays for people who could realistically walk through your door.
Start with geography
This is the big one for a local business. You can aim your commercial at a radius around your location (say, everyone within 5–10 miles), a hand-picked list of ZIP codes, or a whole city or metro. Think about where your best customers already come from, and target that.
By radius
Everyone within a set distance of your door — ideal for restaurants, salons, gyms, and anywhere people drive to you.
By ZIP code
Hand-pick the neighborhoods you want, and leave out the ones you don't.
By audience
Narrow to the right people inside the area — age, income, homeowners, or folks in-market for your category.
Layer on who sees it
Once the area is set, add one or two audience filters — demographics, interests, or retargeting people who already visited your website. A good rule: set the area first, then add just a filter or two. Stack too many and you shrink your reach so far the ad barely runs.
Don't over-narrow
CTV already cuts out most of the waste just by being local. Tighten the area and pile on five filters and you can end up paying more to reach fewer people. Keep it focused but roomy.
Control how often people see it
A frequency cap limits how many times the same household sees your spot — so you build recognition without wasting budget showing it twenty times to one couch.
